An interesting question brought up by a fellow faculty member in the hallway:
If the UCHC faculty remain non-unionized, what will be the fate of the healthcare coverage that is offered to UCHC faculty after the state renegotiations in 2016? Is it possible that we are not guaranteed a continuation of our current enjoyment of the same coverage options as of all the organized employees in the state? Could the state administration take advantage of an unorganized faculty to limit our options for healthcare and other benefits?
I don't know the answer (or even if the facts I've mentioned above are correct), but I am interested to know more if others do.
