In view of today’s communication about the formation of the academic mission, I was puzzled by the lack of representation of Hartford Hospital input. Doubt has already been raised by UConn faculty about how those in a private practice model will function in an academic environment. While there is a hospital based faculty at Hartford Hospital that is somewhat similar, the majority are in private practice and their ‘practice’ is very different from that at UConn. I think that it is necessary to have both groups involved with the UConn faculty in creation of the new identities.

So, I suggest that the ‘collective voice’ include all members of the merged faculty on all issues, both practice and academic. I don’t believe that unionization of UConn faculty facilitates that end.
