From UCHC-AAUP: AAUP protects Research Incentive Awards at NJ Medical and Dental schools

AAUP Wins a Major Victory Protecting Extramural Research Incentive Awards at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ).

In a recent Arbitration decision challenging the University refusal to provide a faculty member with their full extramural support incentive award, an arbitrator found that UMDNJ violated Article VIII(C) of the [AAUP contract] when it failed to pay [a faculty member] the Principal Investigator's share of the second portion of the Extramural Support Incentive Award for FY2003 through FY2007. This is the portion that your Chair is obligated to discuss and reach agreement with you and to the extent there is no agreement, the Chair and you are required to share this portion of the award 50-50. During the time period at issue, the Chair failed to discuss this portion with the faculty member and failed to equally share this portion, as is required by the AAUP contract. Consequently, the Arbitrator ordered the University to compensate the faculty member for this portion of the award for the 5 years in question in an amount of $21,511.

AAUP collective bargaining at UMDNJ also protected the clinical components (patient service and faculty practice) of faculty salaries when the administration unilaterally reduced them. For more details see www.uchcAAUP.org Union dues at UMDNJ are $15.87 for each of 26 pay periods per year because that is what the members voted for.

Vote for the UCHC-AAUP Faculty Association to establish and protect clinical salaries and incentives that are guaranteed by binding contracts not just promises.
