Don-

Thanks for filling in some facts that I had not heard before.

But I think that a point that Leo makes that you do not address is the question of whether union protections will lead to stagnation in the development and maintenance of a vibrant and truly productive UCHC faculty. Certainly, your observation that tenure is under attack here implies that recruiting and retention will become more difficult if tenure remains under threat or is eliminated. But what is the factual outcome of unionization on the productivity of the UConn Storrs faculty as a whole? The success of their students?

I don't know these answers, or how easily quantified they are. But they would be equally useful beside the metrics of faculty compensation and security. I read much of Leo's message as favoring the health of the institution over that of the individual, or even the collective group, of faculty.
