From Cato Laurencin, Monty MacNeil, and Michael Hogan: Update on the Partnership

2:41pm 9/24/2009

To: UConn Health Center Community

As you may have heard, some legislative discussions occurred yesterday regarding the proposed replacement hospital and proposed partnership with Hartford Healthcare Corp. While the discussions have not yet resulted in approval of bonding for a new hospital, it’s important to understand that the partnership remains viable, and we continue to view it as an important pathway for advancing the UConn School of Medicine and UConn School of Dental Medicine. Moreover, it is the best solution for the Health Center’s long term fiscal issues, for UConn and the state.

We continue to meet with Hartford Healthcare Corp., our legislative leadership, and Governor Rell regarding the partnership.  Indeed, many of the discussions on the partnership have been very encouraging and we remain optimistic that we’ll reach a favorable outcome; one which will solidify the long-term health and future of the state’s only public University Hospital.

We truly appreciate all of your support for the Health Center and the partnership and ask that you continue to advocate for this exceptionally important initiative.
