On a separate issue relating to Ed and his representation of AAUP, I'm forwarding here a message that I sent to him in July, without receiving a response. It may serve to preface my curiosity about his plan to use facts in persuading us to join. I apologize for the tone of voice in the message, but it reflected my mood after receiving my very first communication from AAUP.

How do you expect a group of intelligent people trained in critical thinking to put their trust in your organization, when you send us a letter discussing "cards to call for an election..." wrapped around a card to "designate the UCHC Faculty Association/AAUP as my sole representative for the purpose of collective bargaining with respect to all matters..."?
Is this a mistake in stuffing the envelopes? Do you really think we are that inattentive? How can you possibly work to regain our trust after this sort of an idiotic trick?
I have nothing against collective bargaining or unions, but you have just dug yourself a big hole if your intent is to convince us that you will be working in good faith on our behalf.
Since Ed is actively engaged with all of us in this discussion, perhaps he could answer the questions I posed to him at that time, addressing the other interested faculty reading this discussion. More important, though, are the data that I think would help us better understand what his organization might to do for us.
