Very well, stated.
But I am still very interested in data, and a longitudinal comparison of per-capita faculty productivity before unionization and after unionization at Storrs is actually an internally controlled apples to apples comparison.
That's all I want (and haven't seen yet from any party). It seems that getting such an answer will help objectively address my question of whether the union is likely to help strengthen the institution. I would ask that those taking the unionization idea seriously provide us with some data along these lines. If it exists, it would be very convincing to me, and possibly to other skeptics.
Thanks,
Bill
ps- For the record, I do trust Sandy (the first to give me an explanation of the cards); but I see no reason to trust a small 3x5" contract that shows up in my mailbox with a misleading explanation... enough on the cards.

I have avoided getting into this since I am out of the loop (I don’t think emeriti are included in a union). However I have to say that assessing the impact of AAUP by before and after data in a world and university that is changing for myriad other reasons is not really going to tell anyone what AAUP membership does or does not accomplish. You all are just going to have to decide based on best guess. In any case this correspondence has been interesting. Good luck. Larry
