Thanks, Sandra. You are clearly well read on the labor issue.

My and others' remarks on productivity were focused on understanding the impact (plus or minus) of unionization on the health of the institution. Several faculty have made it fairly clear that this is the outcome that is their main concern. The recent discussion of the history of productivity was not really focused on the question of representation.

On the question of representation, though. I has been confusing to understand what AAUP intends to do for us. How would the rest of us have come across some of this information you've presented? How would (and why should) we trust that a card that looks like a signing-away of rights is in fact something less?
