Your point is a good one. But the organizers of this vote within the Faculty did nothing apparent to seek accommodation with their colleagues' schedules, and the vocal ones among the unionization organizers on this list have been unsympathetic and disdainful of others' differences in work and travel schedule. I suspect that more and more peoples' reservations on the issue of this Vote have more to do with the lack of forthrightness and inclusion in the process than with any aspect of unionization per se.
Yesterday's announcement, and its many ripples, were a rude shock to many Faculty. I, for one am undecided, but quite wary of where we are headed, and of how inclusive the We is that the organizers have in mind. The "What's done is done and you need to suck it up and live with it" attitude on a brand new controversial election announcement, and the palpable glee from the AAUP Exec. Director over what he says is a denial of requests for absentee voting, are perhaps the most distasteful indicators of how narrow their vision is for a Union.
