Ed:
I see from your website that the vote is from 630am to 730pm. This is good.
However, the vote is being held in the academic lobby with no accommodation for faculty who cannot come to this location. This is unacceptable from my point of view. More polling stations need to be made available. Also, accommodations for "absentee" votes need to be made.
If you conduct this election without the changes I suggest above, the results will not be viewed as valid. You may open yourself up to legal challenges, although I am no expert at this. But you will certainly find yourself facing a group of faculty (whichever group winds up the "loser" of the vote) who consider the results biased and unfair. This is no way to embark on such an important endeavor for our institution.
Please consider making changes to the election process. If you would like me to forward this email to the "administration" officials who agreed to your election structure, please tell me who they are and I am happy to do so.
Sincerely,
Jason Ryan

While having several polling loactions does seem like a fine idea, I reject the notion that any interested faculty member would be meaningfully inhibited from voting even if the only polling place is the academic lobby? Why can't even "hospital-based" faculty come to the academic lobby? Too far to walk?
ReplyDeleteMaybe he wasn't talking about this hospital.
