The vote of our UCHC faculty for collective representation provides us with an opportunity to expand our participation and commitment to the building of a strong and vibrant Health Center that can be a top tier institution in research, education and patient care.
Thank you to all who contributed to the exchange of views that made our vote an informed choice. The election of a faculty union could not have happened without significant support from the clinical, basic science and dental sectors of our faculty. As we move forward, your support and participation will be needed and critical to the development of a constitution, for the election of officers, and for the organization of a collective bargaining committee to conduct negotiations with administration that will address the issues and needs of all sectors of the faculty. See the attachment for some early steps.
You can personally participate now by going to www.uchcaaup.org/forum/ and shaping the focus of your unions constitution & agenda. As you develop ideas all will have the opportunity to rank agenda items (for example see www.uchcaaup.org/poll/lpoll_find_enter.php ) and vote on various options (see www.uchcaaup.org/poll/poll_find.php?p_uid=4 ). Your union is committed to the open participation by all faculty members.
We now have a collective voice that can allow us to work together rather than simply "share a heating system." It is now our responsibility to use that voice positively and creatively for the health and welfare for our students, our patients, our University and for the people of the State.
