Whether for or against the union, and/or the outcome, the only question seems to be one of “ process”. If , as Les says, the mechanism was externally set by the State Labor Board and made public, the window for redress might have been best prior to the election. Unless there has been some abrogation of the “ rules, it is hard to see how the “ jury “ verdict will be overturned…
Like it or not, all of this represents the unmasking of a schism in the faculty regarding governance and “ voice”. We have a choice and it is not a trivial one…We can intensify our differences or we can try to create a new culture …no one can say that there was a tide for a Union but rather that about ½ the faculty expressed a desire for something new….I may or may not like the outcome but I agree that this is a time ( and a rare one ) for creating, if possible, a stronger Health Center and Medical School…after all, that is why the lions share of faculty are here…..
